is VPN really safe ?
I’v been in the private VPN service industry many years, one of the most asked questions from the customers is ” is VPN really safe? you sure the service can really protect our privacy ? ” , well each time i will tell the customers the answer is YES and i didn’t tell them why because most of them don’t understand the tech staffs .I’m not gonna explain why VPN is safe by using the “rocket science” words today, i just want to go back to the point of the question – is VPN really safe ?
The answer is YES, to 99% of the people. why ? because VPN traffic is encrypted, it is not 100% absolutely safe, it can be decrypted, but the point is decrypt the VPN traffic will take a lot of resources, it is can not be afforded by individuals or small companies and organizations. so if you are not FBI or CIA wanted people, you don’t need to worry anyone will decrypt your VPN traffic.
You may want to ask, is there anything i can do to make my VPN connection more secured than other ones? normally i will say, you don’t need to do anything, the normal SSL VPN (OpenPN,SSTP) works like a charm , but if you do want to make your VPN connections much stronger , i suggest you use ” NAT Firewall ” on your VPN connection.
NAT Firewall is a packet filter that blocks unrequested inbound traffic from reaching your computer or device when connected to VPN server. Most OS have built-in Firewall (like Windows). However, your VPN constructs a tunnel between your PC and the VPN server. This tunnel passes that through the OS’s built-in Firewall and you lose the extra protection (as it cannot read the encrypted packet). Malicious IP packets can probably enter your system from your public IP assigned to you by your VPN service provider.
So, if you under a serious situation, you can try NAT Firewall on your VPN connections, bad news is not every VPN service provider offer this service, as i know, Hidemyass, PureVPN and StrongVPN have it, you can check their sites for details. and always, read some VPN reviews before you order.
