4 working ways to unblock sites in China in 2013
Recently, the VPN market in China is totally a mess, the WALL block and disturbing many VPN protocals, many VPN providers closed for China based customers. but the people in China do have the passion to use VPN service, so here we make a list of working VPN ways to unblock website in China in the 2013
1, SSH Tunnel
SSH tunnel is a socks5 proxy service, the big advance of this kind of service is, you can use both VPN network and the local network in the same time on the same device. because VPN network more or less slow down your internet speed. so sometime, local network is better than VPN network. the normal VPN is global, means all your traffic go through the VPN servers, but the SSH Tunnel service is only let your specific browser traffic go through VPN server, for example, you can setup SSH Tunnel on your firefox or chrome to use VPN network, and use local network on your IE
2, Cisco IPSec
This is a very new way to unblock sites, Cisco IPSec is build in VPN methods in IOS (iPhone/iPad/iTouch) and OSX (Mac), so it is very convenience for Apple user. in Windows, you must use 3rd part software to establish the Cisco IPSec VPN connection, it is very fast to connect and verify and because it is a new method, the WALL seems don’t noticed it, so it is working pretty good in China. however, Cisco IPSec use UDP port, consider the WALL is very good at blocking UDP taffic, like OpenVPN UDP and L2TP IPSec. it is hard to say when the WALL got attention. the only downsite of Cisco IPSec is the connection is very weak, means if the communication between you and the server has a tiny problem, the connection will drop.
Like the OpenVPN, SSTP is SSL VPN, it is Microsoft’s own VPN method, so obviously it can only be used on Windows Vista/7/8 and Windows server 2003/2008/2012 . because of this, it is not widely used VPN methods, so it is not catch the WALL’s attention too. it is working fine in China at this moment. but like i said, it is only for Some version of Windows.
OpenVPN have 2 mode, UDP and TCP, and have 2 verify methods, CA (a .crt file to verify) and Static key (a .key file to verify). the fact is :
if the provider use CA verify , UDP mode is not working in China, TCP is working.
if the provider use Static key to verify, both UDP and TCP are working.
so, you’d better contact your provider before you purchase
PS : PPTP working in some place of China , because PPTP is very easy to block, some reseller ISP usually block PPTP by other reason.
PPS : L2TP is not working in China, it will connect, but it will disconnect in 1 seconds
